First issue was May 16 1865. It was owned by E.F. McElwain, J. Barrett, and Marshall Robinson
and operated as a Republican newspaper.
In November 1865, Henry Rust Mighels, once
the editor, became a co-owner with Robinson until 1870, when Mighels left for San Francisco.

In 1870, the Carson Daily Appeal had new owners, Perkins and Street. They changed the name
to The Daily State Register. Their political affiliation Democrat.

Henry Rust Mighels returned to Carson City in 1872 and started The New Daily Appeal. Marshall Robinson become a partner with Mighels. Together the purchased The Daily State Register. In early 1873, the word "New" was dropped and The Carson Daily Appeal was used.

In 1877, Mighels and Robinson changed The Carson Daily Appeal to The Morning Appeal. Henry Mighels died in May 1879. His wife Nellie V. Mighels assumed the ownership. In October 1880, she hired Samuel Post Davis as editor, whom she later married. Davis was the editor of the paper until 1898 when he became the Nevada State Controller. The paper was known as the Daily Appeal from 1906 to 1907 and then the Carson City Daily Appeal from 1907 to 1930. View issues at the Library of Congress, Chronicling America.

A Republican affiliated newspaper printed daily, except Saturdays and holidays. Published by Edward Niles.
The CCCA holds original issues of the Carson
Daily Times (December 1880, January, February, March and June 1881)
A daily, except Monday, newspaper published in Carson City by McClure & Parkinson . The paper's affiliation was "National Republican". In April 1896, the paper moved to Reno, Nevada.

Don't you love the experience of picking up an old newspaper and reading about the
news of the day ? We sure do! While many old newspapers are available on the Library of Congress' Chronicling America site, or on the subscription based www.newspapers.com, some papers are not on these sites. And, we feel viewing the actual newspaper and reading the headlines and local stories certainly takes you back in time and provides for a more authentic experience. For these reasons, we are pleased to have papers in our collection.
